On Saturday September 9th, participants will learn pottery in the Roman Villa Borg from the master ceramist Lyn Riccardo in a course in construction technique. Already in Roman times there were pottery kilns for the production of everyday ceramics. In addition to vessels, roof tiles were also made in such potteries.

This year, the Open Monuments Weekend is entirely devoted to the Caesar festivities. The festivals that are only organized once every 25 years, in Velzeke! They go back to the origins of Belgium. Historical figures were - literally and figuratively - placed on a pedestal. In 1873 Velzeke unpacks with a suit of armor in honor of Julius Caesar.

Metal Screw Threads In Antiquity

During the Roman period, small metal screw threads were used both as fastenings and to impart motion (Burstall, 1970, p.77; Singer, et al., 1972, pp.631–632). Screw threads as fastenings can be seen in some jewellery and screw threads to impart motion can be seen in olive presses. These screw threads could have either a square or V-shaped profile.
