European EXchange on Archaeological Research and Communication

EXARC is the European organisation of Archaeological Open Air Museums and other facilities involved in Experimental Archaeology. It is our aim to establish a high standard of both scientific research and public presentation. The idea of international exchange of knowledge, human resources, publications and facsimiles is to improve the quality of work for all associated members. It is not our intention to exclude anyone who does not meet our high standards concerning the quality of museums work. We rather want to encourage and incorporate other institutions conducting Experimental Archaeology and help them to a higher level.

Who can become a Member

Basically, only institutes and open air museums can become member. If you have any doubts about your status please .

Rights & Benefits

Members have the right to decide what EXARC is doing and where we are going. Every member organisation has a vote in the general assembly. When EXARC is setting up projects, these are in first instance for their members.
Members can visit each others' premises for free and will have a members' card to facillitate that. It is advised to contact the other party before visiting.
Members will recieve different aids in order to make their membership recognisable: electronic logos, brochures as well as a shioeld to put up near the front door.

Duties

Members are supposed to join in our meetings.
Members are supposed to inform EXARC on their doings. their actions and problems. besides this, on regular intervals, questionnaires are sent to all members which should be filled out. By collecting this information, EXARC can stand stronger. The information will be shared with EXARC members and - more generalised - in our year report.

Procedure

Every institute can point out a representative, which whom we will keep contact. The secretary will then send a list of items we would like to get from you as well as a questionnaire as we would like to learn to know our new members better. Questions concern for example the amount of constructed buildings, the amount of visitors, the amount of people involved and attention is paid as well to contacts with the archaeological world.

Once this is done and the new member declare to agree with the standards and goals of EXARC, one has to pay the contribution fee - only AFTER an invoice is sent by EXARC.
This is set at € 60,00 for 2008 onward. For this amount, the institution one represents is member until December 2008. Eastern European members pay € 20,00.
