European EXchange on Archaeological Research and Communication
EXARC is the European organisation of Archaeological Open Air Museums and other facilities involved in Experimental Archaeology. It is our aim to establish a high standard of both scientific research and public presentation. The idea of international exchange of knowledge, human resources, publications and facsimiles is to improve the quality of work for all associated members. It is not our intention to exclude anyone who does not meet our high standards concerning the quality of museums work. We rather want to encourage and incorporate other institutions conducting Experimental Archaeology and help them to a higher level.

In 2000 the Society for Experimental Archaeology (SEA) Hradec Králové published the first volume of the yearbook “(Re)konstrukce a experiment v archeologii” (REA) concerned with experiment and education in archaeology. Its aim was to for an allow exchange of information in Czechia.
The Czech yearbook though became sought abroad but the information was difficult to access despite the main articles being summarised in English, French and German.
Over time foreign contributors found their way to publishing in Czechia. The rising interest from abroad AND a need to serve the wider public caused SEA to set a bold step.
To allow an exchange on an international level and at the same time not to disappoint the Czech public SEA split the original REA yearbook into two: a fully Czech journal “(Re)konstrukce a experiment v archeologii - živá archeologie” and an international “(Re)construction and Experiment in Archaeology - European Platform”, generally known as EuroREA.
In this latter effort they have joined forces with EXARC. Started as a grass root movement, EXARC fosters quality of archaeological presentation in open-air museums and institutes alike accross Europe.
Together we hope to create an information exchange platform for those working in the fields of (re)construction and experiment in archaeology.
2007, EuroREA was transferred from SEA into the hands of EXARC. From that moment on, SEA was still a willing advisor, but EuroREA became the journal of EXARC, where the board has full responsibility, in this case delegated to the editor in chief. The board of editors was not affected by this change and still mirrors the international character of EXARC as well as SEA.
